The Bearded Dragon

If you've never heard of a bearded dragon you might think it is some mythical creature. In fact it is one of the most popular pet lizards on the market today. This is because they don't get vary big and they generally have a good disposition. I have had a few that were rather aggressive though. It just depends on how they were raised and their personality. People that have never owned a pet lizard might think that last statement strange, but I assure you reptiles have personalities. Bearded dragons get their name from their beard. It is a the area under their chin that they puff up and it turns black when they get excited. They open their mouths to look intimidating and to scare off predators other dragons on their turf and to impress mates. They do a funny head bob that signals to other dragons "this is my territory.". If you are looking for your first pet lizard I would recommend the bearded dragon. Just be sure to do all the research you can before going out to buy one. It's best to have everything set up and ready to go before you bring your new pet home. |
